Mini-Tour is a Success
It
was a week's worth of traveling, singing and
bonding for the men and women of Kaskeset. Beginning
December 20th at SAR Academy in the Bronx, taking
a Shabbos swing through Rockland County and
finishing up with a guest appearance at SAJES'
"Chanukah Mall Madness" in Long Island, Kaskeset
and their music earned rave reviews at all of
their performances.
We're
always looking for performance opportunities,
and in particular are looking to put together
a similar string of shows for our next break
in mid-March. If you're interested in having
Kaskeset perform for your organization or
event, here's
how to contact us for booking information.

The Winter Mini-Tour Begins
Kaskeset
is coming to a town near you! During the week
of December 20 - 27, Kaskeset will be making
four stops around the New York metro area.
The group is looking forward to introducing

Kaskeset accepted to the ICCA
The semester is over, but the good
news just doesn't stop! The official lineups
have been announced, and Kaskeset has been
selected as one of 108 a cappella groups worldwide
to compete in Varsity Vocals' annual ICCA
competition. Kaskeset is also the very first
Jewish group to have been selected for Mid-Atlantic
regional competition.
The
ICCA,
which for the first time this year is named
the International
Championship of Collegiate A Cappella
(with groups from three nations competing),
pits six a cappella groups of varying styles
against each other in performing 15-minute
sets, with the two highest-rated groups moving
on to the semifinals. Then, semifinal winners
compete at the international finals at Lincoln
Center's prestigious Avery Fisher Hall.
On
February 3rd, Kaskeset will compete against
Binghamton University's own lovable Harpur
Harpeggios, Cornell's Last
Call, Elizabethtown's Melica,
Princeton's Roaring
20 and the SUNY-Buffalo
Chips. That's some pretty tough competition,
but Kaskeset is very excited and looking forward
to making a run at advancing.
Kaskeset
is honored to have been selected and is looking
forward to hearing all that quality a cappella
on February 3rd, when the
Pegs themselves will host the quarterfinal
round right here in Binghamton.

The New CD: Coming Along Quickly
Kaskeset's
new lineup visited Open
Studios for the first time yesterday,
churning out takes of six songs in a very
productive session. The project, which sounds
great, is way ahead of schedule for a release
date sometime next year.

Semester Show Is A Success!
As
if we weren't proud enough of our new guys,
they showed their worth by pouring in lots
of hard work alongside the "vets" to make
the Fall 2000 show, "Kaskeset Sings Hava Nagila
And Other Favorites," what was described by
critics and fans alike as the group's best
performance to date! Special thanks to Brown
University's Kol
B'Yachad for coming up to open, to
everyone who helped out behind the scenes,
and to all those who came out to see the show
on a night with so much going on.

Welcome New Guys!
"Mini-Kaskeset"
(the eight remaining members who didn't graduate
last year) gave an inspired performance at
the JCC Ethnic Festival on September 24th
while the newer members were still prepping
for their first performance. That day finally
came in grand fashion on October 21st, as
Kaskeset's new lineup made its world premiere
at a free show for Parents' Weekend in the
Kosher Kitchen. They did a great job!

Kaskeset: The Next Generation
We
can't believe our good fortune! Kaskeset added
six very talented voices yesterday at auditions.
Before today, it looked like 2000-2001 would
be a rebuilding period for the group; now,
it looks like it could be a banner year! We're
incredibly excited to have the following new
members aboard:
BEN
DARFLER '04
MARINA GUSEL '02
EVA KIVIAT '04
RICHARD MAYER '04
JAMIE TARR '03
BEN TURK '01

Back
To School With A Bang
What's
everyone's favorite back-to-school Binghamton
tradition? Why, it's the dollar show, of course!
This semester's show, co-coordinated by Kaskeset's
own musical director Mike Boxer, went off
without a hitch -- and the same could be said
for Kaskeset's three energized sets. The crowd
of over 700 was invigorating, but the best
part was being reunited with four of our beloved
alumni to sing one more time!

That Time Of Year Again
After
a lively week filled with performances for
Yom Hashoah (May 1), the Excelsior Awards
(May 4) and the Jewish Alumni of Binghamton
Reception, (May 6) Kaskeset wound things up
with a new traditional -- the farewell rehearsal
(May 13).
We're
really going to miss our graduating seniors,
but we were glad that their final year was
such a landmark one -- some 20 performances,
the release of our debut CD, our first Spring
Tour, the Columbia festival, eight talented
new members, appearance on a compilation CD,
and one incredible Spring Show.
We
wish them luck and hope they'll come visit
next year -- because we've got even bigger
plans.

Auditions
On
Sunday, April 30, Kaskeset had its latest
round of auditions, and was pleased to accept
Evi Simons, who now can add "Kaskeset new
kid" to her list of claims to fame, which
already includes "oboist extraordinaire" and
"Jon Parker's girlfriend". Welcome Evi!

What's Next
Kaskeset
is taking a well-deserved hiatus for a little
while before they make three appearances during
the second-to-last week of school: May 1st
at the Yom HaShoah rememberance, May 4th at
the Excelsior Awards and May 6th for the Jewish
Alumni of Binghamton.

Yet Another CD
Why
stop here? Now that the rush to put out Shir
Pleasure is over, Kaskeset plans to
record a few songs every semester until enough
material is done to constitute an album, as
most groups do. The group began the process
on April 16 and somehow managed to churn out
eight new songs at a recent session, putting
them way ahead of schedule for a target release
date of Spring 2002.

Shir
Pleasure Is Here!
It
really sinks in when those big boxes full
o' CDs roll up in a UPS truck. Kaskeset's
debut CD, Shir
Pleasure, which we've worked oh so
hard on and are very proud of, is now available.
You can order your copy by printing out an
order
form and sending it in or by contacting
your favorite Kaskeset
member. Each copy is $12.00 (plus $3.00
shipping and handling if you can't make it
to the Binghamton University campus to pick
it up).
If
you live on-campus and have already ordered
a copy, you'll be getting an e-mail informing
you when and where you can pick it up. All
others can expect mail delivery within the
next 2 weeks.

The Big Show
All
the hard work paid off on April 9, as Kaskeset's
Spring 2000 Semester show was a runaway success.
The performance, which attracted over 350
people to Binghamton University's Lecture
Hall One, featured not only the familiar standbys
plus some six new tunes, but very special
guest appearances by the Binghamton
Crosbys and the Ferrets. Seemed like everyone
had a lot of fun -- especially us! Check out
snapshots of the big day on our photos
page.

Kaskeset Featured on Compilation CD
Each
year, Lights
In Action puts out "Do It In Your Dorm
Room," a Shabbat-themed compliation CD as
part of their National Student Shabbat package,
sent to hundreds of college students across
the nation. Music came from various college
students as well as a special guest track
from the Moshav
Band. This year's CD also featured "Shalom
Rav", an exclusive track by Kaskeset with
a solo by Stephanie Feinberg. Recorded special
for this CD at Binghamton University and engineered
by our pal Lowell Gurey, this version is different
from the one on Shir
Pleasure.
Sorry...
we didn't have news updates before this one!
Use your imagination.
Looking forward to seeing you at one of our
shows!
