“It is not so much that Jews have kept Shabbat as that Shabbat has kept the Jews.”
Ahad Ha'am

Shabbat is the time each week where over 200 students at Binghamton University come together to stop, relax, catch up with friends and celebrate together. Every week Hillel at Binghamton hosts a FREE shabbat dinner with kiddush, challah, singing, and friends.
At 6:00pm there are two options for student led services:
Reform: Kesher Guitar-led Services:
A combination of Reform Hebrew liturgy, English readings, and lively singing in an informal chavurah style setting.
Conservative Egalitarian: Koach Service:
Energetic student led davening and singing led from Sim Shalom , the Conservative Movement's prayer book.
At 7:00pm dinner is served:
The entire Hillel community comes together for a lively FREE KOSHER Shabbat dinner with all the fixings. During dinner there is a brief teaching by Rabbi Shalom Kantor which reflects on the week, the time of year, and some element of Jewish tradition. Then before desert is served there are announcements about up and coming events and sometimes a performance by our award winning acapella group Kaskeset.
Desert is always accompanied by singing, hanging out, and schmoozing and Birkat HaMazone.
Every other Saturday morning KOACH (The Conservative Movement on Campus) sponsors services and a large festive kiddush lunch. The early birds meet each week at 9:30am for hot coffee, chocolat, tea and muffins. Student led services start at 10:00 and are followed by a large lunch, singing, schmoozing, and hanging out into the afternoon.
